Sam Altman returning to Open AI?
Multiple sources indicate that the OpenAI board is currently engaged in discussions with Sam Altman regarding his potential return as CEO. Altman, who was unexpectedly terminated by the board without prior notice, appears to be uncertain about reclaiming his position and has expressed a desire for significant changes in the company’s management structure.
The fact that Altman is already in talks with OpenAI, just a day after his dismissal, suggests that the organization is experiencing a state of turmoil in his absence. Shortly after Altman’s departure, Greg Brockman, OpenAI’s former board chairman and president, resigned from his position. Both Altman and Brockman have been consulting with their acquaintances and investors about launching a new venture. Furthermore, several senior researchers also quit on the same day, with insiders speculating that more departures are imminent.
While Microsoft, OpenAI’s primary investor, declared its continued commitment to the partnership with the AI firm following Altman’s termination, the company’s investors were not given any prior notification or opportunity to express their opinions regarding the board’s decision to remove Altman.
OpenAI’s efforts to keep pace with the remarkable surge of ChatGPT remain in full swing. When approached for a comment on Altman’s potential return to the board, OpenAI’s spokesperson remained silent. Similarly, a Microsoft spokesperson chose not to provide any comments on the matter.
